I
finally finished reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. I'm still working out just what I think, but my initial reaction is frustration. I was originally pulled in by the lush language and intrigued by the main characters. That wasn't enough to make up for the fact that the book gets choppy as it goes on, that I didn't like one of the later characters in the book, and that the original brilliant focus on these two young men and their dreams becomes diffused by so many other things. I still recommend it, but with conditions.
Now to ponder some more and think up something coherent to say for my book club. I can't believe I joined a book club, but it's been several years since I've had regular friends with whom I can dissect something I've read, people who are actually interested, so I'm really looking forward to it.
