*frowns at report*
Blah blah blah... what a load of crap.

So I didn't get my martini last night. Neiman makes them at his place all the time, and Daria insisted I get something she could have a taste of (and she hates olives) so they made me get something different. There was port and rum and pineapple and lemon and stuff in it. It was ok, but a dirty martini would've been better.

"The District" (MIFF) was odd. The animation style was interesting and a bit different which was good. But I was a bit worried at the beginning of the movie when the characters all seemed to be rather coarse caricatures: the rebellious misunderstood teenage everyman (Richie), the funny old ethnic grandpa, the big bully with the rich dad, the brainiac with glasses, the inscrutable but talented chinese boy, the sweet girl from the right side of the tracks (Julika), etc.

And then the plot seemed like it had been made by someone who thought animation was definitely for kids, and had never seen the layering and complexities and maturity of The Simpsons, or Miyazaki, or any anime in general. There were overly obvious Montague-Capulet parallels, and then they threw in a classroom scene where they were actually studying Romeo and Juliet. There were annoying expository voice-overs.

But then those wacky kids started time travelling, which made everything alright.

social, movies, drinking
