I think if you keep good track of what you are spending for a month or two, that will probably be all you need. You probably already know whether you are saving enough or whether you need to cut back for the mortgage, and a couple of months' budget will be enough to tell you where you can most easily cut back if you want to, and whether you are spending lots on anything that isn't worth it.

Also, I think that I previously I found that a couple of months wasn't really enough for my budget, cos my spending is quite erratic - e.g. a big trip every 2-3 years, occasional updating of wardrobe (often as part of travelling)...
(I do think I'm saving enough already, but...could totally do way more...)
