Xmas day with the sister's boyfriend's family was (surprisingly?) fun[1].  Spent a good 6+ hours talking (and drinking and eating) food and family and science and culture and life.  Then a nice little impromptu visit to Fleur, Neiman and spawn.

NYE was also good good good - just around the corner at Nyeve and Bunyip's.  An intimate houseparty of just the right size and a great mix of people - some really really good old friends who I don't see enough of, some people who I've known for a while but still don't know as well as I'd like, plus some totally shiny new people who were good friends of people in whom's friend-taste I trust.

Despite a rather late night, on NY day we managed to get to a daytime dance party and didn't regret it (in fact, rather enjoyed).

I usually don't do resolutions, but given I may become mortgaged this year, I should probably start to budget properly.  I have started some rather nice budget spreadsheets at various times in the past decade, but never kept them up to date.  It's so much easier to just spend sensibly and retain a relatively large pool of liquid assets for unforeseen expenses.  Even though I know I'll "get used to it", I kind of dread the anticipation of not having quite as much to work with (despite any redraw facility).

On the days in between Xmas and NY... I managed a little work (but not enough), surprisingly little baking (only a single batch of dinosaur gingerbread), a lot of drinking, etc.  There's probably other stuff to report.  I still haven't finished "Love in the Time of Cholera" :-(

[1]I had been a little anxious it would be awkward.
