Choo-choo-choose-day

I choo-choo-choose to write about random stuff:
  • "A recent report by the US Justice Department showed that a record 7 million people - or one in every 32 American adults - were behind bars, on probation or on parole at the end of last year."  Wow.
  • Caught up with Hird (down from Sydders) and Oat (down from Canbers) on Thursday night after an amusing mixup between Pony (a bogan bar) and Horse Bazaar (an arty bar).
  • Scorcher on weekend, had a couple of birthdays to go to on Saturday which I'd assumed were at night, but then turned out to be both at 4pm on a 37 degree day.  But the one I went to (Bunyip's 30th!  He almost grownup!) was excellent.  The venue was AMAZING - a massive riverside property (rambling old house, HUGE gardens both front and back) with stacks of gum trees next to the river (yes, some people swam) and cooling shade and heaps of delicious food (mmm...dips and turkish bread, garlicky prawn skewers, a huge savoury flesh (beef?) curry, dhal (yay mustard seeds), potato salad, sausages, lentil patties, other veg patties, bbq'd pressed tofu, corn, green salad, (am definitely forgetting some dishes) home baked bread, and of course the Massive chocolate mousse cake) and great company (and I managed to bring  a stack of water pistols which weren't used nearly as much as I'd expected). Didn't manage to make it out for a dance after with Hird though, naughty.
  • Stayed inside on Sunday and didn't even realize it reached 42 degrees.  Poor Bunyip and Nyeve did the party cleanup during that heat!
  • First sentence meme, 2006 in Review:
    • Jan:  Managed to fit in 18 hours dancing between 11pm NYE and 2am Jan 2nd.
    • Feb:  Hm. Stuff... where the hell is my time going?
    • Mar:  Speshal_k's entry reminds me that I bought wine especially to make sangria on our Tapas Arvo on Saturday.
    • Apr:  Ok, yes have been ultra crap.
    • May: ha - just got a "nudge" from speshal_k, what a swanky new feature :-)
    • Jun:  Crap - two whole weeks without internet and once again only manage to get to lj when I have minutes to go with some stranger looming over my shoulder waiting for his turn at the computer.
    • Jul:  Sick last week - odd flu thingo, so had rather sensible last week of break.
    • Aug:  So it took HR four-five days to have me sorted out in their system (not counting the initial two weeks to get me my paperwork).
    • Sep:  Just had tetanus booster and typhoid/Hep A shots.
    • Oct:  *checks friends page again*
    • Nov:  Picked up my visa for China this morning.
    • Dec:  Back...at work :-P
  • Too many whinging first lines up there, I think I should try to be more positive in future!

weekend, parties
