Potty as get out of jail free card?

I realize a lot of people with a child my age (she turned 3 last month) would love to be having this problem because it means she's fully toilet trained. However....

One of our more common disciplinary tactics is to move Alex to another room when she's creating a problem in the room she's in. She's been interrupting this by screaming "I NEED THE POTTY! I NEED TO GO POTTY!" Depending on how bad her previous behavior was, sometimes we walk her to the potty and then return her to whatever room we moved her to. If it was just a matter of her cooling off/calming down, and she's calm and reasonable after using the potty, then that can be the end of it.

Then there was today. I'm sick and pregnant and grouchy, and desperately wanted a shower by myself. Of course, Alex decides she needs to poop, sits herself down on the toilet, and starts asking me the standard run of pesty-questions. Any attempt by myself or my husband to get her to leave is responded to with "NO! I'M POOPING!!!" So much for a peaceful shower. :(

I don't want to undo the excellent work she's done with toilet training, but this is starting to feel pretty blatantly manipulative. Help?

advice - discipline, advice - potty training
