Three thermometers Today, I had my first Research Science class of 2007 and I taught the class how to use the weather instruments to collect atmosphere information for the
GLOBE project.
We did the cloud dance then laid down on the grass to look at the blue sky to estimate the cloud types and cover. Waving our hands and arms around to measure the percentage turned the activity into a funny group version of Tai Chi. Some wags rolled about on the grass laughing when I gave them (with a serious voice and dead pan look) more cloud observations to do for homework.
The Science Museum of Victoria has a good collection of different scientific instruments to measure temperature. Last January I took some photographs of this collection. I had some fun later adjusting these photographs by correcting for the colour, contrast, digital noise and even perspective.
They have been added to my growing
slideshow of weather instruments.
