Just rain, rain, rain and for variety .. some drizzle today. Hardly enough blue sky to sew a pair of sailor's trousers.
My Research Science students are preparing for their field trip and one of the things that we do is measure the canopy cover. Using a Spherical Densiometer. We do this instrument by counting the sky squares, facing different directions. We have also used this forestry tool to measure cloud cover, comparing the result with waving our arms about, guessing or using our outstretched hands to measure clouds (1%).
It is interesting how hard it is for my students to estimate percentage cloud coverage for our
GLOBE project.
