Drummers at Moomba

Pulling the Moomba floatMoomba is an annual March labour day celebration in the City of Melbourne. This year it coincided with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and had a distinctly international atmosphere.

I had a good chance to snap some pictures as I ducked and weaved my way through the crowd, trying to get to the other side of the road. Shown here is a red Japanese procession with dancers, driver and a float full of enthusiastic drummers.

The following panorama photograph shows the parade continuing its march over the Flinders Street station bridge. In the background are the concert hall and arts centre spire. Looking under the bridge, I found a path and way to the other side of the parade, next to the Yarra river.
