This week I set up a Moodle class at for a Monash University media class so that the Clayton and Distance Education students can work together on a class wiki, assignments etc. They are really excited about what can be done as a collaborateive group.
We looked at Wikipeedia and discussed what was different about the database that we were building. As a first step, we thought it would be good to pool our knowledge, build some links then step back to research our perceptions and backup our words.
There are too many strategies to detail. Good preparation for a Wiki activity helps, as always. Within the Wiki I create a page that lists all the students and pages that they are working on (with obvious links to their pages) I needed this to track what work had been done by my students to assess their work. The kind of things I was looking for in any article was message and clarity, spelling and gramar, at least 2 links to current topics and 1 link to a new topic negotiated with me, reference links to work cited, picture etc (as listed in an assessment rubric).
I was interested to note that my older year 12 VCE students wanted a go at adding in some assessment and feedback notes for the work by the younger students. Adding in a cross age tutoring component to their work is a fascinating idea but we have soooo much to do as it is.
