oh foolish students.... ye know not what awaits.

i want to start off by saying that the worst time to upset your teacher is right before he is going to write your upcoming test, which will be quickly followed by writing your cumulative final. my students have done this. i am tired of disrespect, being ignored, my compassion taken for granted, and general ass-hattery of students. my planning period is second hour. tomorrow i will be pre-filling out 30 detentions without times or names. my goal is to use at least 20 of them tomorrow on my remaining four classes. we were in the middle of doing some optics labs but since i had 2 convex lenses broke, 1 prism broken, 4 spherical convex lenses stolen, and 5 laser pointers stolen they will be losing their lab opportunities for the rest of the year. yes it means i have to completely rework the rest of my week's lesson plans (which i actually for once had done in advance), but thats ok; this needs to happen. we will be doing notes and worksheets tests, and practice tests for the rest of the year this year. some of the notes will be lecture/auditory notes with just a few slides. some notes will be slides based, other notes will be more like follow along worksheets. as we get to the review for the final it will be short follow along worksheets and then worksheets that will be collected and graded. hopefully these assignments help their grades because i have every intention of destroying them with their final.
i am sure they will be confused as to why we are stopping our lab halfway through it tomorrow; which means i will get to explain to them exactly why this is occurring. i look forward to it. the behavior of my students because of my failure at successful classroom management begins to end tomorrow.
compassion, listening, and relationship did not work. now brutal discipline will be attempted. partly because its the opposite side of the spectrum and if it isnt drastic it wont be taken seriously, and partly because i am really really irritated. i anticipate severe rebellion and non-compliance from some students. i will have referrals ready and have them sent to the assistant principal's office quickly. some students i will also begin to lobby said assistant principal to have them removed from my class because they dont have a prayer at getting credit for the semester and they are simply discipline problems.
tonight i sharpen my axe while i rework my lessons. tomorrow i will be ruthless because i have a lot ineffective discipline to make up for.
