So first a continuation of the previous post. I've been assigned two teachers. One is my former college friend/former flatmate/person I connected to get his job here in the first place. The other is a friend of my supervisor, whom I've also done a series of physics grad classes with. Suffice to say, my dry wit saw an opportunity as I emailed them to set up a schedule. I sent them an extremely formal email which has no purpose for people who I'm well acquainted with such as these. One got the joke and replied in kind, but the other missed. Either way this job looks to be a fun one. I get to hang around with friends and talk physics.
This morning was typical New England weather. Started with some steady rain, then turned into torrential rain, cleared up to a sprinkle with sun shining through, then back to torrential rain. This all took place in the time it takes me to get to work (about 10-15 minutes). Granted it didn't quite have the usual variety of snow, wind, and other weather phenomenon that I've seen in the past, it was nonetheless an interesting meteorological display.
My afternoons this week seem to be filling up quickly. Today was a Game Club meeting, which seems to be turning into freestyle gaming on Wednesday and D&D on Friday. The evening turned into the usual hanging out w/ Pat, Chrissy, and Surprise. I'm pleased that we've gotten back into playing board games a little, though granted we're appealing to a board game snob so classics like Risk, Monopoly, etc get left by the wayside. Thursday is club pictures for yearbook and tutoring Jason. The evening will be watching a fundraiser, Dancing with the Teachers. While I'm not one for that type of show, it gives me an opportunity to see other teachers acting silly. Friday I'll be tutoring Dave and then possibly watching a movie. At the very least, I assume I'll continue rewatching through Babylon 5.
For Turkey Day, I'll be heading down to Georgia. While I'm usually a pro traveler, I'm a bit uneasy about the latest TSA regulations. Do I put my physical health at risk or mental health at risk? X-ray bombardment or groping? I'm curious as to just how many terrorists will be stopped by these measures. Perhaps more importantly, I wonder how many are laughing at us putting all our travelers through the same scrutiny a person in jail would go through. I'm not sure if anyone's had to travel with these regulations yet, but if you have, I'm interested in your opinions. Rest assured I'll let you know my experience after it happens. Beyond that though, I'll sleep through the flights and wake up in another state, easy travels. Anyways, time's ticking and I do have to be up to crack dawn for the rest of you folks. Might post more ranting on this tomorrow.
