i woke up this morning with the strangest sense of excitement. I was thrilled to be in a body. It was like it was brand new, being in skin. I delighted in fluttering lashes. Grinned at ashy hair sweeping round my face. Shoulders on which to hang clothing. Fingers and ears to adorn. I had an out-of-culture experience, my mind flashing to the beautiful people of this planet who wear bright clothes and magnificent jewelry made from the things around them. Smashed berries. Sewn quills. Spun gold. The Hopi weaving their hair into great basket like formations. In New Orleans, the man with the most beautiful Mardi Gras Indian is revered. And even now, there is the miracle of the runway, of couture, of material culture. It is seemingly nothing new for humans to cover themselves in inventive, fantastic ways. It made me so excited for my documentary about garments and innovation.
