Sep 12, 2010 22:55

So today i bring you another tutorial for your enjoyment. This time, for the lovely Festival belt pouches I've been selling! Their so simple and fun! Originally I made them out of Pillow cases for reconstructions sake, but you can use anything. I just used scraps in my tutorial, but I do suggest you use a pillow case or scraps.

I hope you enjoy the tute and please post pictures of your finished bags! i would love to see them!
Remember this Tutorial is not to be used for commercial use! don't be a copy cat, come up with you own designs to sell!

Step 1)

Cut out the inside and outside of you bag, Aprox 16inch by 10 inches
Also cut your inner pocket about 12 inches by 4-6 inches depending on how deep you want your inner pockets!

2)

Cut out your waist band, this is a strip from a pillow sham, its what I'm going to use, it's width and length is entirely dependent on what you want!

3)

Now this is a little hard to explain, put you inner pocket fabric between the two layers, where ever the bottom of you inner pocket ends is where your going to fold the fabric up later to create the pocket. Stitch around the outside, leaving an opening at the top to turn out right side out.

4)

Snip your corners off!

5)

Turn it right side out. now you can see where you pocket is going to be.

6)

Now you can carefully stitch in any dividers you want into your inner pocket. i make one large enough for my cell phone, a pencil, and a pack of cigarettes.

7)

Now fold the bottom up so that the bottom of the inner pocket is at the bottom of the bag. And then pin.

8)

It makes a pretty sandwich when you carefully adjust all your layers to lay together all pretty.

9)

In that opening in the top, before you stitch it close add in a loop of elastic or two for closures, make sure its the right size for the buttons. Go ahead and top sitich all the way around, esp across the bottom.

10)

Now stitch your waist band from the inside, making a tube.

11)

Turn your tube right side out and top stitch it!

12)

Now pin the pouch to the belt, leaving enough space to stitch them together.

13)

I always use two rows of stitching for security on this part. Don't want it to fall apart.

14)

Make sure everything fits and then finish it off. You can add closures to the belt of any kind, velcro, buttons, snaps. I'm lazy so when I make them for myself I just use two big safety pins. Add closures to the bag too, a button if your used an elastic loops or button holes, try snaps, or velcro, or anything else you can scrounge up! This bag is about using what you have!

15)

And taadaa there ya go! put it on, go party, and keep those hands free for play bass, or slappin butts, it's up to you!!

Thats all for today! Sew Happy!
