It was our work Christmas party today. As usual, nothing happened the way I thought it might - I didn't talk to the semi-friendly new geek more than once (how am I supposed to get a gaming group going this way?), I sat with a bunch of people I didn't know, ended up having a long and interesting discussion with someone who was reasonably jealous of my going to comic con (no clue how the people in that department knew that I'd been), and got stared at by the whole company.
I was spacing out after the MC gave out our company award for production (being grumpy at the engineer who got the award 'cause his project was a pain in the unmentionables to analyze), when Tyler-the-MC started talking about an incident on his birthday, and fire trucks, and perchloric fumes, and then they dragged me (and the two junior techs) up in front of all 400+ people. So now I have a lovely plaque and a certificate for dinner to say thanks for
not letting the lab burn down. Our company only gives out two awards a year - the production one, and the health and safety one - so it was kind of a big deal. And also embarrassing.
And now I'm wired and want to go dancing, but I have to wait for another 2 weeks or more.
