At Last...

I can say here with glee and joy that I have finally seen and finished the two dramas I have been waiting to see for several months. Granted, I've had two under my belt several weeks to a month ago and when I was about to post review for those, real life got in the way and smacked me hard in the face. I got busy and really stressed out. Thankfully, I managed to get everything taken care of and it all worked out in the end. Sometimes I can get really stressed out for no reason at all. It was one of those real life lessons that I needed to grab by the horns and throw it down on the ground. I think I did it this time. But all of that is for another post probably. Onto the reviews!

My prayers and wishes were heard and answered with this one! I had no idea in the beginning that I would love this series so much. Miyama-san is truly my favorite character played by Jun. I usually don't have number one favorites. There are several that tend to compete for the top and each have their own pros and cons as to why I can't choose a top favorite for anything. But this one is definitely on top for me! I missed Miyama-san so much, and the whole legal gang. Watching the first episode was like coming back home after being away at school for so long. Everything was warm and felt so familiar. The horrible puns were back, and they didn't get old or do to many of them. This show was written and directed so well. Nothing grew stale during this season, whereas some shows that get revived kind of lose their touch about halfway through. As if the writers are trying to out do themselves and just make the show for money. I'm sure the creators loved their baby and they did a good job neutering it.

One difference was the new girl, Ozaki-san. It was interesting to watch her gradually fit into the firm's mold as herself. She kind of came off as this cold and aloof lawyer, but she soon welled into her work just nicely. It wasn't too fast and not too slow. Also, she had her quirk, too. As a ventriloquist. Alright, then. People have their hobbies, I guess. Sorry, I guess puppets just kind of freak me out a little bit. So whenever the granny came out, I always felt nervous. Not sure why. At least there wasn't too much of it.

Season 2 touched on Miyama's father's case in the beginning, which was good closure since it was brought up at the end of season 1. They were also able close his case for good and put it in the past. Would I say season 2 was better? Eh, I think they're about even. One doesn't really stand out more than the other. Maybe the jokes were a little better in this one.

Definitely watch this one!
I gave this drama a 9.5 out of 10.

This one has been on my to-watch list for a while. I'm not sure what it was that made me decide to finally pick it up. Usually when I'm watching one or two brand new dramas, I try to find a third I can watch between air dates. So that I can feed my need, so to say. This one is quite popular, and as I watched I understood why! I noticed a lot of very popular dramas came out in 2013. It must have been a great year for dramas.

Most rom-coms I watch are centered around high school or college students, and this is the first one in a while that focused around adults. There was the usual love triangle, but instead of the girl being at school in her uniform and constantly torn between one guy or the other, this one was a grown woman turning 40 who had two guys into her. One was quite a bit younger too! I didn't have a preference for which guy she would end up with since she focused on her time with one guy. Even starting a relationship with him. Meanwhile, she had great chemistry with her coworker who also developed feelings for her.

There were also little side stories for the side characters as the drama progressed. I liked that we got more than just the main story with the main two romances. It was a nice change of pace. It made the drama feel refreshing. As for the ending, it is kind of a surprise to see who she ends up with. This drama did something different not because the girl chose the guy that none of the viewers wanted her to be with, or that she chose to be herself and choose none of the guys (which is where I thought the drama was going). However, the ending is not a disappointment. Nobody was left out in the cold and nobody had their heart broken in the end. Everything raveled together just right, and though there might be some healing to attain to, nobody got hurt! Maybe that's why this drama is so popular.

I rated this drama 8.5 out of 10.

I was very satisfied with Nino's new medical drama. I think it was his first, right? I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started it, but I was happy for a new Arashi drama nonetheless. I'll take it! The drama was based on a novel called Black Pean 1988 I think. At least, that's would I could tell from the Japanese in the credits. Apparently, there are sequels to this book. I wonder if I could find copies in English.

Nino plays a doctor named Tokai at Tojo University Hospital and he's kind of portrayed as the anti-hero. Meaning that he saves lives as a heart doctor with his vast knowledge and surgery skills, but he's an enemy to any doctor he comes in contact with. He has a thirst for tarnishing their names and their careers by forcing them to leave and give up if they are unable to save their patient during surgery. This is where Tokai steps in, saves the patient, and then forces the doctor to quit and hand over 10,000 yen. What does he want with the money? Who knows. Honestly, I don't know if that was ever established in the drama after 10 episodes. I thought he was trying to raise money to open his own hospital. I didn't think he was that ambitious, though.

Nino's ad libs are on point in this drama. If you weren't much of a fan of him before, you surely would be after seeing him here. You really get a glimpse at his dark humor. Tokai is a lot like Yoshimoto-sensei from Kazoku Game. Never put those two together. I think reality would collapse. I also loved Sera-san who studied under him (even though he was a bit of a cry baby), as well as Hanabusa-san. There were many other doctors and characters who played well in this series.

If you are a Nino wifu, definitely catch this series! It will be worth it and you will fall for Nino all over again!

I gave this drama 9.5 out 10.

I think I'm going to take another break from watching new dramas for a while. I am watching two other dramas, but I've seen them before and they deserve a re-watch. I don't know when I'll pick up a new one. Maybe not until Aiba's new drama, which may not come out until October. I'm not sure. Right now, I have a lot going on in my life and I'd like to take things slow for now. I may post a couple more entries about what's happening in my life in the near future, but this might do it for now as far as watching dramas.

Have a nice summer, everyone!
