"Minimum thresholds Duty and GST/PST/HST are not charged if the FOB value, i.e. the value of the goods excluding shipping and insurance cost, does not exceed CA$20.00."
Gee, roughly about the same as us here in the UK...Import VAT sucks so much, sorry to hear that! Sometimes packages do get through unnoticed but sometimes they don't....looks like the value in Canada is lower than you think? ;___; I think the only things I get charged with from fees these days is eBay or occasionally here if sellers don't feel comfortable putting a lower value...seriously a rip off and annoying but eh, looks like that might be the case for you ;w;!
>.< yeah. However, When I talked to the postal office customer service yesterday, they said the value must not exceed $60 for personal use. But it is just so weird sigh....I guess I was just very unlucky and got hit with customs
( ... )
It seems i was wrong about the $60. I just confirmed with the customs office that anything over $20 is subjected to customs, taxes, and duties :( That really sucks knowing that basically anything I buy oversea is subjected to customs if I am not careful.
That really sucks =( it's similar to us here, everything just gets taxed all the time x.x it's such a stupid rule... Yeah, FJ is usually cool with it, just mark anything under 2500 yen and you should be okay hopefully. It's other places that can be more worrying!
Sorry to thread jack, but do you know where to pre order the set? ;o; It's not on pokemon center right now, and I can't find it anywhere else for normal price kgjfhdhf
ooooo~~let me know when you get that set up. Cus i did check recently that is is sold out (so fast after it just got restocked) T^T. But I see from the pokemoncenter.com that shipping is free for purchases $50 right? So i think the shipping is going to be free for the figures unless they are anal about it since the other Nendoroids are prices at 49.99 that is not technically $50. Do you know if the Champion Red Nendoroid is also priced at $49.99?
Customs in Canada is completely random. I've only been hit with duty twice and it was ironically on lower value packages. I've had items over $100 not marked as gift make it through. Just because you mark an item as gift and claim a value doesn't mean customs will believe you though. They have a right to reevaluate the marked value if they feel it's too low. Also if it was shipped from fromjapan it's pretty easy to assume the items are actually not gifts compared to a transaction with a private seller. Maybe your package just caught someone on a bad day.
I'm not sure about trying to get it re evaluated, but depending on what you ordered it might not be worth the hassle
Ah i see. But it is just so strange cus even larger and heavier items made it through with no problem (i guess maybe the person who was looking at it didn't even want to be bother with it and just let it pass
( ... )
Another member just told that that part of the fee is the cost of the time they used to inspect the package. So if I were to get it send back to get it re-evaluated, it would be another $9~12 fee. Which means even if they canceled the other charges on the package, I would still have to pay $18 ~24 :( Man that sucks so much!
The issue about customs JUST happened to me. I order 1-2kg boxes that are worth 4000-5000yen (not marked as gifts) via SAL often, and this time I ordered a tiny 5000yen package containing a single Poké doll that was marked as gift and sent via EMS, and it's been stuck at Customs for THREE WEEKS. I'm not Canadian, but with Spanish customs you can either pay the amount they ask for, or they ship the items back to where they came from, so if you think the fees are too much you could probably ignore the package and wait until it comes back so that you can ask FJ to mail it again :/ So far I've had to send them proof that I ordered and paid the plush (yes, even if it was marked as a gift), as well as my personal ID, and right now I'm waiting for a quote, which I'm pretty scared to hear since the total is higher than $100 counting shipping (because they calculate the quote counting the shipping cost, too, for some damn reason
( ... )
Ah man, that really sucks. Why do they have to force you to pay the customs like that :( that is quite unfair. I hope the Spanish customs will improve and stop charging its citizens so much customs. I understand the government want to control imports and also earn money, but this is just so unfair :(] I hope when you get your quote, it isn't going to be too much....*fingers crossed*
My package shipping costed like over $250.....so I really don't want to pay that amount again @.@ but the customs fees is a lot too. Cus when I saw the package yesterday to write down the custom border's number to call them, it showed that they marked the value of the items as $100 and i got charged for $43.29, that is like 43% charge @.@ what the heck????!!!
I hope I can resolve this problem soon cus I really want my items TT^TT
It's really unfair now matter how you look at it, even more if we're talking about collectioning items that were never released in our countries >_< Paying half the price AGAIN is just awful...
If you bought a $500 iPhone for $400 online and they charged you that extra $100 to push iPhone sales in your country, I would understand, but (in my case) paying import taxes for a second-hand, 15-year-old plush is kind of... dumb? If you want to earn money through online selling, you just make the shipping prices higher like they've been doing every year ever since I've been shipping and receiving stuff. But stopping people's packages and charging them such amounts is pretty unfair.
Yeah exactly :( I think the only way we can avoid to get customs if the value on the package is very low, maybe under $20? And the package is small. Or move to Japan XDDDD
( ... )
EMS gets hit by customs every single time for me and I switched to registered airmail... Sure I get my items slower, but it's cheaper on both shipping and customs!
I think it has something to do with EMS forcing the customs forms to go quicker to get their promised delivery date, and that way nearly all packages get hit by customs because they're being checked far quicker. While with normal mail they sort of just pass along with all the rest of the mail and are less quicker to get hit?
I think the best for you is to either suck it up and pay for it. (Really marking as gift and undervalueing is a kind of crime, so maybe consider yourself lucky it only happened once so far.) Or if you do not want to pay it, I would pay and then press the charges, because at least you have your items then and you don't want those to accidentally dissappear or get send back to sender accidentally. Not to mention they'll open it up and see forms that'll easily show it's not a gift.
Yeah but for me when I use FJ, airmail actually costs around the same as EMS but it takes longer for me to get it. I think next time i am going to sent just a few items at once in a package to avoid getting charged for customs
( ... )
It seems you were right about marking it as a gift and undervaluing it is a crime. I just confirmed that from the customs border. Sigh......I don't understand why was the gift option even made then? :( I guess the only thing I can do now is just pay for it and forget it.
