... but I've begun attempting to knit a lightweight summer sweater out of lace-weight rayon and cashmere-silk blend ... on size 1 needles.
I haven't knit much but socks lately, and
the last pair of those came out way too big for my feet (
kalmn should be receiving a package soon). I'm up for something less mindless, but not quite ready to tackle another big lace project just yet. And there's that big Rubbermaid tote full of
free yarn my sister sent me for giftmas ...
I hauled some of it out the other day and started swatching, and was kind of taken with this unbranded "rayon flake" - an ever-so-slightly thick-and-thin lace (or perhaps light fingering) weight yarn. It's too variegated, really, for lace, and the colors are a touch on the, erm, bright side - but I fiddled around with knitting it in alternating rows with some of the large supply of black cash-silk 2-play in my stash, and in stockinette, the effect is quite pleasing.
And I've been meaning to play around with Pamela Costello's
Incredible Custom-Fit Raglan pattern, which claims to work with any yarn you care to use. Hah. I'll show her.
I cast on a couple of nights ago and got about 20 rows into the neckline before I realized I needed to make some adjustments - adding more stitches to the center-back, mostly, to accommodate my measurements. So I frogged it and started over, and now I have about an inch of pretty nice-looking stockinette. I'm giving it a vee neck, and planning to make it fairly loose (the swatch, plus my experience with rayon and cash-silk yarns, suggests that the fabric should drape beautifully), with short sleeves and, I think, one of the pointy lace edgings from Victorian Lace today to give both sleeves and body something like a handkerchief-point finish. Hip-length or longer.
In other words, I'm going to be knitting freakin' lace-weight stockinette on size 1s for the rest of my life.
I must be mad. But I think it'll make a pretty top, and what the hell, half of the yarn was free.
