As part of a year-long effort to keep better track of my spending in general, and to avoid building up my stash, I've been keeping track of what I spent on yarn in 2008 in a locked post. The year is over, the destashing went well (thanks in part to a couple of friends on whom I was able to offload some random novelty yarns and odds and ends of sock yarn), so for those who might be interested in the count, I'm unlocking the post, redating it (I hope this works) and putting it here

Stashed for socks in 2009.
Total spent in 2008: $653.27
Most of it went to make garments for me; a small amount went into gifts. All in all, not out of line with my "disposable" income, and good for countless hours of meditative entertainment.
Everything I bought during 2008 has been used except for one skein of sock yarn and two of lace-weight silk. Time to start looking at lace patterns again.
However: I also acquired a
metric buttload of vintage yarn for Christmas from my sister, who received it from a weaver friend who was moving. My share fills an 18-gallon Rubbermade tote. So much for destashing ...
I'm going to keep the same kind of records for 2009, and I need to start looking for sweater patterns that call for fingering-weight/DK yarn so I can start using some of that giftmas yarn.
