How I Caught Them All, Part 2

Mar 08, 2009 10:30

Here is part 2 of my epic tale of catching every single Pokemon out there that has released in North America with the exception Celebi.

Pretty much the rest of the Pokemon I needed would involve the GBA games in some way.  Diamond and Pearl have a neat function where you can take your Pokemon from the GBA game, and move them to your DS cart.  It's a one way trip, so once you send them to the DS, you can't send them back.  Also, you can only do six a day from a single GBA cart.

Pokemon Leafgreen
This game is a remake of the original Game Boy games, Red and Blue.  America never got Green originally.  It is kind of complicated.  It was a real treat to play this game, cause it is basically an updated version of the original games.  Pokemon from other generations don't appear in the game until after you beat it.  Everything else is pretty much the same, with the exception of a new area.  If you liked the original games I'd highly recommend this one as well.  Anyway originally, I was going to transfer the two of the starters to Pearl, then play through with the third.  But after doing this with Bulbasuar, I was just too eager to play through the game.  Major mistake on my end, as I was in want of a Charmander for the longest time.  But I was eventually able to trade for one, so it was all good.

Pokemon Emerald.

Emerald was a really interesting game for me.  It was the first "new" Pokemon game I played after becoming reacquainted with the series.  It's a small wonder that some of my best Pokemon came from this play-thru.   I chose Mudkip as my starter.  Yes, it's true, I do liek Mudkip, but for good reason.  After he evolves, he gains and additionally type: ground.  This means that it becomes a water Pokemon immune electric attacks, though it does make it super vulnerable to  grass.  Emerald was a pretty good play though, and this time I was patient enough to send all of the starters in Pearl before I started the game for real.  There is a lot left for me to do in Emerald yet.   Since I got most of my legendaries from Ruby, I've still got a couple I need to catch.  I'm also contemplating completing the Pokedex for this game too, since all of my legendaries from this generation have been on my Emerald cart at one point or another.  At the very least, I still need to complete the regional Pokedex.

Pokemon Ruby
I picked up Ruby for two reasons.  First, I had the preorder bonus disk for Pokemon Colosseum which you can use to put a Jirachi on either Ruby or Sapphire.  Secondly, I needed it to get Latios.  In Emerald, you can choose between either Latios or Latias, but to get the other one, you need a special ticket.  Ruby wasn't the first Pokemon game I bought used, but it was the first GBA game I bought used.  This meant that I had access to a partially played game which made it a lot easier to finish in the long run.  To beat it, I just transfered over a few of my more powerful guys from Leafgreen and Emerald, and just smashed thorough the rest of the game in a matter of days.  My ultimate plan for Ruby was to turn it into my own personal Jirachi maker, cause if I restarted it, I could put more Jirachi on it.    But first, I decided that I might as well catch all of the other legendaries since you can never have enough legendaries.  I also got some good training for my GBA team, and an awesome fire Pokemon in the form of Blaziken.

To be concluded....

video games, year of updates, madness!?!?
