I have to say my first experience at SPAC was completely amazing, I will go back every year if I can. Saturday night's show goes in my top 3 shows of all time behind Hartford 8/27/00 and Central Park. I have to say, that was by far the best Lie In Our Graves I have ever heard, hands down. Here's the setlist in case you haven't seen it yet:
Best of Whats Around
When The World Ends
Rhyme & Reason
Dream Girl
Hello Again
Out Of My Hands
Smooth Rider
Crush
Hunger For The Great Light
Lie In Our Graves
Louisiana Bayou
Say Goodbye
The Stone
Two Step
Encore:
Dreaming Tree [tease]
Old Dirt Hill
What You Are
Aside from the setlist, there were some incredible jams, they must have been seriously pumped from Live 8 because this show just rocked.
The whole weekend was great. The plan was initially to leave Brooklyn around noon, head up to the campsite, set up camp and then get to the show early so we could get into the Preferred Lawn area. Unfortunately, traffic was a complete mess, we arrived at SPAC just in time for the show. Of course, this would be the night I had lawn seats and it was pouring rain. That kind of sucked, but the show was great so it made up for it. I forgot how much I hate being on the lawn though, never again. I don't know why I violated my no-lawn policy, normally I would rather not go to the show at all then be on the lawn. This didn't end up being too bad, I was with my friends
thahall and his brother Ivan. Once the rain stopped, it was fairly pleasant, in spite of the annoying people around us. After the show we made it up to the campsite where Bill and James were waiting for us. Thankfully most of the rain had passed so we were able to set up our tents and remain relatively dry.
Saturday we basically just hung around the campsite chatting, snacking and drinking. Darren and Marco arrived around 13:00, right after we finished setting up Bill's tent for them. We went into town for a bit to get more beer and food, then chilled till it was time to leave for the show. We left the campsite around 18:00 and made it to SPAC in plenty of time for the show. We had decent seats, although they were far to the side so we couldn't see the firedancer :( I was able to easily sneak Ivan down from the lawn and the three of us thoroughly enjoyed the show. As I said above, it was completely amazing, I had such a good time. I have to say my state of mind this whole weekend has been wonderful, it was such a relief. I was really afraid that I would be brooding the whole time, but true to form, Dave has this way of pulling me out of whatever mood I seem to get myself into :)
Sunday was a lazy day. We woke up a little late and cooked an incredibly yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, ham and swiss accompanied by toast cooked on a stick over the campfire :) Bill, Darren, Marco, James and Ivan spent some time paddling around the pond in these kayak type things. We played a game of Cranium, then an enlightening round of "I Never" before James, Bill, Darren and Marco headed back to the city. Thomas, Ivan and I spent the rest of the night chatting, first over some yummy snacks from Sahadi's, then around our raging fire. This morning we slowly packed up the site and hit the road around 11:00, stopping in Saratoga on the way so I could buy a magnet and pick up a snack at a little coffee place. Thankfully we didn't hit a shred of traffic on the way home, so we were back in the city by 15:30. I'm at Thomas' apartment right now being a little lazy and trying to figure out where to catch the fireworks tonight. Thomas has a nice roof, but it's a bit far from the river so the view isn't great. Tara invited me to a rooftop party in Williamsburg, so far that's the most appealing option, especially since it's close to my house, but I also kind of wanted to hook up with Bill and James and they wouldn't be able to come to the party so I might not do that. We will see... :) Either way, it's been a fabulous weekend, something I really really needed.
