How I ended up stumbling home drunk at midnight after a
NYLUG meeting is beyond me. I suppose with Bill I should have known, he's such a bad influence!!
What was Microsoft girl doing at a Linux user group meeting you ask? Well, the topic tonight wasn't really Linux at all, it was Enterprise Archiving, and being that I'm in the data business it was right up my alley. It was actually quite interesting, I was glad Bill told me about it. In addition to hearing about this archiving solution which would probably be a good fit in my organization, I picked up a tip on a book which sounds intriguing,
The Clock Of The Long Now. I think I shall pick it up for reading after I'm done plowing through all the
Christopher Moore books.
Anyway, after the meeting everyone heads over to Friday's for drinks and snacks so Bill and I proceeded to drink 2 very large margaritas and eat some food. I spent some time talking to the guys from
Archivas (Evan Marcus gave the presentation and brought along a sales guy) and some other folks from the group. It was great, I got some business cards, I think when I tell Val about it he will be excited. They use mass amounts of cheap hardware, it's just his thing :) After we'd had enough geeking out, Bill and I headed over to Web to chat with Bruce for a bit. He was so excited to see us, we had a really great time. I drank a black russian which really just put me over the edge. So anyway, now I'm home. I think I'll finish this up, brush my teeth and then head to bed, maybe chat with Josh for a bit before I go to sleep.
