I arrived yesterday morning in the wee hours at 5am. But there's a story to that I will get into later. The last leg of my San Francisco trip took me to Union Square for a trolley ride to Chinatown. We just wandered a little, since SF Chinatown is nowhere close to as exciting as the Manhattan Chinatown. We headed to the House of Nanking - highly recommended on the internet travel sites. Of course, when we got in we saw that it was full of tourists. As I proceeded to order, the older gentleman looked at me and asked if it was my first time there. After I told him he was correct, he looked at me closer and started speaking to me in Mandarin. I guess my face just screams Chinese. So he asked if I was from Taiwan - again, I wondered who has been giving him my info! So he smiled and just told me that he's the restaurant chef and that he'll take care of us with his best dishes. He points to the wall that has a photo of him with an award. It seems like it was taken three decades ago since he has grey hair now. I must say that the food was indeed very good, and I did go up to him to thank him personally afterwards.
On a note something totally unrelated, I stopped by this one Arco gas station in Redwood City that does not take credit cards. Only cash and debit/ATM. Um, what year is this? I dare say that I have never heard of a gas station not taking credit cards in my entire life. It's not like it advertised that it was a third world gas station. Oh well, I threw some cash at them and did my thing.
This trip went very well, with the exception of the very end thanks to United Airlines. I've had my beef with them before, with numerous delays and sitting around at the airport. But this takes the cake. The flight leaves at 12:45pm, but we get to the airport at 11am. Only to find out that the flight has now been changed to 11:25am, and she can't check in because it is less than 30 minutes to departure. What the...?! Next flight out? 10:10pm. And....it's 11:10am when she got the reissue ticket. Well, we got 11 hours to kill! We went to watch the movie Madagascar where I discovered a newfound hatred for lemurs with an Indian accent, and instead of driving down to LA at 1pm, I drove down at 10pm, arriving home at 5am. Thanks United! It's no wonder you guys are bankrupt. I hope you guys find new jobs where they will actually reward you for completing schedules early and not face hundreds of angry customers when you do!
