I stayed at onsen hotels nearly all of my trip in Japan. I was too tired to try onsen the first night since it was quite hectic traveling via bus and plane. And also, once I got over the fact that you have to be buck naked in front of other people to get into the hot springs, it was all good. Most of these onsen hotels were deep into the mountains and I stayed at this hotel that claimed it is the largest outdoor onsen in all of Japan. I was quite impressed. It also helped that I went at 11pm and there was no one else there. I think I can get used to doing a daily onsen thing.
I must say that I fell in love with the electronic toilet system. Of course, I only read and seen it online before the trip. But experiencing a warm toilet when you first sit down is nice. And knowing the warmth is not because there was a person who used it right before you is even nicer. And I won't even mention the 'undercarriage wash' - I can only use automobile terms since I don't know how else to describe it. :D
