Instead of going bowling last night,
garethness,
sugar_shrapnel and I decided to go see Harry Potter at the cinema. It was... amusing. But I don't think I was laughing at the bits that were supposed to be funny. Now, I've been a pretty big Harry Potter fan since the first book came out when I was seven years old, but there is nothing I can possibly say to justify this film. Granted, the acting in the movies has gotten better with each instalment. The screenplay has not. This was nearly three hours of random scenes with no obvious connections, other than the blatant sexual overtones, undertones and middle-tones permeating each scene, and a general air of creepy paedophilia every time Dumbledore was on screen. It was a connect-the-dots by a kid who can't count yet. I mean, I've read the book and I struggled to follow it, so I fear for those who had no background to work with. It had some entertaining moments, yes, but for the most part we were forced to entertain ourselves by mocking it. Idk, maybe I'm being totally cynical and over-critical, but it was my least favourite of all the films. And yes, that's including the first film with it's awful first-time actors.
I'll probably buy the DVD, though. Egh.
Leave me a comment with "SRS BZNS - WHERE'S MY MARGARITA?" in the subject line.
I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
katesbe asked me these (corrected for English (UK) spellings because I'm a pedantic git):
1. What is your favourite thing to do ever?
This sounds totally lame, but I think my favourite thing to do is probably to nap. I love taking naps, especially cuddled up with G, either basking in the sun or curled up inside when it's freezing outside. Naps are win, end of discussion.
2. If you could only have one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
If I could only have one food for the rest of my life, I'd probably kill myself. Seriously, I assume we're working on the basis that whatever I pick would somehow provide enough sustenance and nutrition to keep me alive, but food is such a major part of my life that I wouldn't want to give any of it up. If I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably go for something ridiculous like mashed potato (proper stuff, not instant crap) or rice or something, but I honestly can't imagine it.
3. Where did you grow up/did you like it there?
Until I was eleven, I lived in Rotherham. It's a little town in the North (ish) of England. It was pretty cool - it was small enough that nothing ever felt too loud or too busy, but it was close enough to Sheffield (a larger city) that you could easily get to everything you needed. Life was simple and un-fussy and it suited me fine. Since my parents divorced, we moved up to Leeds. It's the fourth-biggest city in England. It was such a huge culture shock and I used to really hate it. I wasn't a city kid, and I just didn't fit with the city kids. I didn't know how things worked, at all. But I've gotten used to it now and I quite like Leeds, these days. It's something I always struggle to cope with, though, as there's a whole identity group attached to living in a small town, and another to living in a big city. I'm not sure I fit with either anymore.
4. What is something that always makes you smile?
(Jacques)
My cats. I'm a total, self-confessed cat lady. My cats never fail to entertain me or comfort me or bring a little smile to my miserable bastard face. It can be Sydney whining that there's no food (which there is, but it's been out for HALF AN HOUR OMG), Tallulah being a big, fluffy slut or Jacques being sophisticated and beautiful. It doesn't matter, it always makes me happy and I have no idea what I'm going to do without them when I move out!
5. Three songs that always make you happy?
- Garbage; When I Grow Up

- Ne-Yo; Because of You

- Madcon; Beggin

(yeah, I know, crappy music makes me happy, okay?!)
Also, as inspired by
colours_unseen, I really want to do a handwritten lj post. I promise to try super-hard to make my writing actually legible on this occasion. But I don't know what to write about, so:
The problem with LiveJournal is that we think we're close, but really, we know nothing about each other.
So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about, or something you've always been curious about but have never asked, or something completely silly that you'd like me to answer for kicks. No limits on the range of questions, either: ask me anything you want to know about, whether it's a fannish opinion or trivia about my real life or my thoughts on events in the offline world. ANYTHING!
(thanks to
calmdownbaby for the text I stole there)
So yeah, ask me something and I'll answer it in actual, proper handwriting. Retro, no? Obviously, I will then scan, upload and post the writings and answers for all the world to see.
FUNTIEMZ.
