Broadway Unplugged

Last night Vickie was nice enough to share with me one of her VIP tickets to see "Broadway Unplugged" which was a show comprised of about 20 Broadway stars/Tony winners and nominees. She got the tix because she works for TheaterMania which is one of the shows sponsors. It. Was. Awesome. We had really good seats, right in the middle of the theater (the show took place at Town Hall) and the point of the program was for Broadway tunes to be performed as they were originally intended - without the aid of mics or electronics. Most performers sang by themselves, although there were two duets, and they were accompanied by a piano, bass, and drums. They sang songs from West Side Story, South Pacific, Kiss Me Kate, Big River, Guys and Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar, and many more, some of which I hadn't even heard of before. Everyone who performed was phenomenal. I was just in awe of the talent of these people. After the show we were invited to attend the after party (part of the whole VIP thing...woot!) but when we got there it was very crowded and it was approaching 11 so we decided to call it a night (kind of lame, I know, but whatever). Anyway, it was a great night. It also made me realize that no matter what I end up doing with my life (and no, I'm still not any closer to figuring it out, a fact which I'm sure will come up in conversation with my fam more than once this weekend) I will always have a love for the theater and a deep respect for all of the talented people out there.
