GRRRRR [extended indulgent rant]
Just saw an ad for some bank (I think Loyds) that are give you airmiles for using their account or something. FUCK OFF! Air travel is a fucking outrage. Why should it still be acceptable to go on holiday on planes half way across the world or whatever as often as you want? Because everyone does it? Eurgh. I'm disgusted. Why isn't there a law against this sort of thing? Why is the government still wanting to build extra runways and stuff?
It's just rediculous. People are seeming really accepting of a lifestyle that is totally unsustainable. Well, for sure almost every aspect of everyone's lifestyle in this country is pretty unsustqainable, but not to the extent of flying. Which is also basically unnecessary.
I can understand circumstances that'd make you want to fly.. like, visiting family and stuff. I flew to visit Luciana last year..I am glad I got to see her, she was too old and ill to travel herself and if I hadn't flown I don't think I could have made it.
I kinda realised that if I ever live far away like US or NZ then it will be really hard to not be able to see my family. Sometimes I even think that'd be enough to keep me in europe.
I just find myself getting really annoyed at stuff like this. What is it that people think it is ok to for example run off to NY for a few days or something? I could go all analyst and say it's like our instant culture, maannn that we have to like, get where we want straight away, maaaan. Travelling can be a drag though.. It's always gonna have pretty hugs carbon costs I'd say, and the longer you travel the more you're usually gonna consume shit like sandwhiches in plastic boxes and that. But it can also be pretty awesome, I met loads of people who were really interesting during my train journeys in europe last year and learnt a lot and read a lot and saw some amazing scenery.

Before I leave it alone though.. SHORT HAUL FLIGHTS
What's that even ABOUT?! FLIGHT TO SCOTLAND?! WHAT'S THAT ABOUT? THERE ARE TRAINS! So, some buisness guy might take a plane and justify it like ''have you seen, trains are expensive''. WELL YOU'RE A BUISNESSMAN. PAY IT YOU CUNT. Short haul flights are the fastest growing source of emissions in the uk... though they don't yet account for an enormous amount of emissions, they're entirely unnecessary! Basically I'd ban them. I don't know why they aren't banned. It's a joke. Trains shouldn't be as expensive as they are, and neither should long distance (like between country) coaches - it kinda feels like you're being extorted for having a concience.
Also don't airplanes not have to pay tax on fuel? WTF?
I could rant about this for ages, but I'm not gonna cos it'd be too self indulgent. Hopefully this'll get the flight rant out of my system for a bit.
