The best connection we can usually get out here at the school (being in the middle of nowhere) is about 1.3mbps. That's tollerable, but just barely. For someone like me who does everything online. YouTube, BitTorrent, videoconference, social networking, skype, IM, etc. Downloading software updates for the lab or disc images of the latest Ubuntu distro is especially painful. Streaming HD doesn't stream, it sputters.
My mom called the other day and out of curiosity I talked her through running a speed test with her service. I cried.
13.5mbps.
She uses it to check her email.
