So my guide dog has a secondary bacterial infection that is causing her to bite and scratch herself. Now since it is a secondary bacterial infection that means there is an underlying use that the SBI is a symptom. There are two things that came up when we say our vet that may have caused the SBI: one is hyper-sensitive skin and the second is allergies. First Maylee's vet wants to treat the SBI, then during our follow-up in two weeks start looking into the cause. If it clears up, it was most likely caused by a skin sensitivity due to climate change because Maylee does have a past of dry sensitive skin and if not then we go onto determining if it is food allergies and if changing her food doensn't help then we go onto skin testing and anti-histimines. If it's allergies and/or hyper-sensitive skin then the school did a great job on finding a match for me because I have issues with both! Tomorrow we go back and have her ears checked again because they are still red not the normal pinkish and Dr. Kates wanted us to come in right away if this doens't change. Poor Maylee is having more that the usual adjustment issues!

We did have a great walk at the park after dinner. The park is a bit of a walk from our house then we went through some of the paths in the park. There are loads of hills and trees, it's a nice nature hike in the city and on the other side of the park is the highway. I love urban green spaces! Maylee, Keri and I did encounter a few dogs off leash on the way there that the owners didn't really have control over. Thank goodness they were very small dogs! Also there are a few agressive/territorial dogs fenced in their owner's property on the way to the park and Maylee decided to tell the agressive dog off. She is NOT suppose to bark or really pay attention to these dogs, but it's hard not to for her. I did have to correct her because it is not proper guide dog behaviour. After that she was really good and on the way back she worked past the other dogs behind fences without blinking an eye. YAY Maylee!

Now I haven't been doing much besides working with my dog, playing with my dog and trying to get some computer and leisure time in. It takes a lot of time to establish a good relationship with a new dog and then add the fact that she is a working dog. We are getting into our routine so things are looking up. Not only is my guide dog a great companion, but she gives me so much more confidence then I ever got travelling with my cane. She helps me to walk the same speed if not a little faster than I do with her during the day! All the work I put into taking good care of her is returned by her love and great work everyday.
