Hello, wonderful citizens of my future city!
My name is Nicole, and I'm looking to move to the Pittsburgh area sometime this summer (July or August ideally). I'm originally from and currently living in Buffalo, NY.
I've been scouring Craigslist for almost a year now, checking out the scene and I'm pleased with the options. I've seen a few of the same companies advertising apartments, and I just wanted to check in and see if anyone had any experiences with them before I go and jump into a lease.
A friend of mine has recommended Wylie Holdings (
right here) which is a PERFECT example of the kind of apartment I'm looking for.
One BR preferred, but I will take a studio or 2 BR if I find the right one. Victorian also preferred. Howeverrrrrrr. I messed up my credit pretty horribly in 2006, so unless the wonderful staff at Wylie decide to be extra nice (and I do plan to plead), they're out of the running. Any experience or encouragement to this end would be greatly appreciated.
The other company I've seen heavily advertising on Craigslist is Mozart Management. Any experience with them? There are one or two apartments available 08/01 in particular that I was interested in, but I'm always nervous about companies that have such elaborate Craigslist posts.
I'd prefer to live in Lawrenceville, though I've been told that I shouldn't rule out the North Hills and I'm always open to suggestions.
As for the work scene: I will be graduating from SUNY Buffalo with an honors degree in English, but I'm most likely going to gravitate toward the food and beverage industry while I search for a "real job." I know it's unrealistic to start looking for jobs in February when I won't move there until July, but any leads would be fantastic! For the past three years, I've worked as a bartender/server/barista at an authentic Italian trattoria, and previously to that I have about a billion years of coffee experience. Any multiple-restaurant groups (non-corporate) that are good to work for? Any places to completely avoid? I like independent places with a low turnover. Prefer they ~accept me for me~, tattoos and all, but I have no problem covering them up, if need be.
I apologize if this is extremely premature but I'm kind of a nutso planner. I have had horrible experiences in the past with moving across country, people backing out of apartments and impossible job searches so I'm doing my best to be a bit more prepared this time. :P
Thanks for any help!
