Blizzard warning issued

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―The latest round of snow is causing the roadways to become slick in western Pennsylvania and a blizzard warning has been issued for parts of the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the following counties in western Pennsylvania: Cambria, Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland.

A blizzard warning has also been put into effect for Garrett County, Md. and Preston County, W. Va.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the following counties in Pennsylvania until 7 p.m. Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. for the follow West Virginia counties: Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Monongalia and Ohio.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, by mid-morning a fresh five inches of show had fallen in the Pittsburgh area.

As for snowfalls around the region: New Kensington has seen seven inches, Indiana has seen six inches, Beaver and Butler Counties have about five inches and Farmington in Fayette County has gotten 12 inches.

Bowman is calling for an additional one to three inches of accumulation into the afternoon hours today.

In addition, lake effect snow is expected to kick in off of Lake Erie which could dump three to five inches in the Interstate 80 corridor.

Blustery winds up to 35 miles per hour will be the next problem for the area today.

The mid-afternoon temperature will be near 18 degrees with wind chills near zero for much of the day.
