hello, i hope it's okay i post here... i'm considering moving to pittsburgh in a few months. i'm going to have to ditch my car relatively soon and i can get a job transfer to pittsburgh so i'm considering it. also, the price of living seems reasonable ( Read more... )

The Southside is also arty, eclectic, and a transportation hub - it's why I live here. It's gotten to be more upscale in recent years, but you can still find good deals near 10th street. Also, this is closer to the T (subway) , which can take you downtown in 2 minutes. (there are buses to anywhere from there.)

Downtown itself is also changing tremendously, so despite the comment about it dying at 7pm, that is less and less true. The cultural district has been making an effort to have interesting after hours events, and succeeding. There are also reasonably priced loft apartments there, and as noted, there are buses to everywhere downtown.

Basically, go to the portauthority map at http://www.portauthority.org, and see what is most covered for your needs there.

Pittsburgh is a town that is finally finding a resurgence after lying dormant for decades. As a result, we are now at the cusp of more and more interesting things happening, yet still having a low cost of living. I hope you do come to see these amazing changes!
