Where to trash electronics?

Apr 07, 2009 21:54

Where in Pittsburgh can I safely dump electronics I no longer need? Example: Non-working TV or CRT computer monitor. They still potentially hold a charge(and maybe some other harmful material) so I was looking for a place to safely discard them.
The closer to Bellevue, the better.
Thanks guys!

You can send some of these items to the city, who takes care of them. If you are concerned if they dispose of these items in an environmentally friendly way, give the Pittsburgh City Environmental Services a call (412-255-2773) and ask about it.

Only if it's functional and of recent enough vintage that they can resell it as part of a reasonably usable system. They used to take anything, from TI99/4As and 20 MHz SPARCstations to an entire set of VMS/Vax documentation and books on Telex, but they were becoming a dumping ground for useless 20-year-old computer junk that no one would buy. So one day, they threw two decades of computing history into the crusher and magically became profitable. The original poster's broken CRT monitor would not be accepted.

Ah, okay, I wasn't sure how much junk they were still taking.
I also skimmed the original post and didn't realize it was a non-working monitor.

The tv is dead, but the monitor is on its last legs. I was just looking for a place to safely discard them both when the monitor finally decides to go.
