pontiuspilates and I are getting married this fall, and we'd like y'all's help finding some things:

* An officiant. Specifically, a secular official of some sort who'll come to the park on a Sunday.

We're aware of the self-uniting marriage concept, but we're leery of it. Frankly, we kinda want somebody to walk us through the ceremony. . . . But we're not ( Read more... )

We're not looking for interfaith, we're looking for nonfaith. Thanks, though.

He will do non-faith.

I used him. We did have to ask him to take the word God out of his speech in 5 places and he was cool with it.

For the officiant I'd contact the Pittsburgh or Allegheny government and ask them. They'd be your best and most official source of information on local justices of the peace.

As for the food. Wilson's is good but I'm torn between them and Sam's Memphis BBQ on Federal. Unfortunately, the best BBQ place in Pittsburgh (Richard's Smokehouse) closed down some time ago.

For photographers... I paid a friend of mine, who is a photographer around $500 to take pictures. He did a damn fine job. Not that I'm saying you should use him but you may want to look at your friends and their friends as well. They might know of someone that can provide this service at a reasonable rate.

Does Sam's Memphis actually exist anymore? I pass it nearly every day, and I don't think I've ever seen it open---or even looking as though it had been open in the recent past...

Ya know, I don't actually know. Its been a year or more since I've last been there. Ever since I got a smoker I don't go out for BBQ much.

I forgot to respond to this in January, but thought I'd mention it for posterity anyway....

For the officiant I'd contact the Pittsburgh or Allegheny government and ask them. They'd be your best and most official source of information on local justices of the peace.

Unfortunately, when I e-mailed the county, all I got back was a one-line e-mail essentially telling me to RTFTB.

(I seem to have deleted the message, but I was actually told that I would have to look them up, they'd be listed in the phone book.)

Wedding photography is expensive just based on the sheer amount of work that goes into producing it. It's not like a 30 minute sitting for headshots. It's hours at a function and reception, where hundreds to thousands of shots are taken. And then all the processing afterwards takes time. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Anyway, rates can always be negotiated, depending on what you want. Things can be cheaper for instance if you order the prints yourself.

I've done weddings before. Feel free to write me and let me know what you're ultimately looking for in the the photos and maybe we can work something out.

Do the photos yourself... cpdavngr January 16 2008, 17:04:40 UTC
Someone just posted something about wedding photography and I replied to it. Here's a link to the thread and my reply:

If you actually want to pay someone to do it professionally, I'd recommend John E. Bodnar. His prices are on his site.
As far as prints go, you will be paying for them no matter what you do, even if you do it yourself. However, once you get the CD/DVD of pictures from the photographer, you can upload the pictures to a place like Shutterfly and they will do the prints for you and send them to you. The prices are listed on the site.

I'm a wedding photographer. I work with another photographer and both of us do weddings together so essentially our prices are fairly nice considering you get two photographers. It is hard to find a cheap but good photographer, but as fun as the job is it's not always easy. That's why prices aren't as low as you'd like them to be. I'm planning my own wedding right now and the cost of a photographer is going to be difficult for me so I totally understand.
