Summary: Poppy and Phil do lunch.
When she was human-or more mortal, at least-Poppy had hated how image-centric California could be, but as a vampire, it worked in her favour. Waiters were used to wisp-thin models never eating, so they didn't blink when Phil ordered enough for three people and she only asked for water.
Still, she couldn't help but feel cheated when she'd sneak a bite of her twin's dessert and taste nothing, or at least nothing extraordinary. Poppy had thought being a vampire would enhance all her senses, but her taste buds seemed muted more than anything.
Phil watched his sister grab his fork and carve out a piece of his chocolate cheesecake. "You miss food, don't you?" he asked quietly, thinking back to the little shimmy of happiness she used to do when she ate something sweet. "Or at least sugar."
"Just desserts." Heaving a sigh, Poppy set the fork back on her brother's plate. The confection didn't delight her like it used to. "You know how . . . limited my diet is," she added darkly as she swallowed her mouthful. "It all tastes the same. My just deserts."
