Valentine's Day is a sexist holiday. I have had a few okay V-Days, but recently I have come to the conclusion that it is sexist towards men. The holiday originated from the idea that the saint of love, Saint Valentie, would shoot people with his love arrows, rendering the subject into a great feeling of admiration towards another. Today the holiday is celebrated by men showering women in gifts, candy, and flowers. I am not saying that I have been exclusively denied such things on this holiday, but as a general rule of thumb, women expect gifts from men when it comes to this holiday. I had a conversation with my father the other day and in it he brought up the fact that it was soon to be Valentine's Day. He said that I should not forget to call my mother and wish her a happy Valentine's Day. I love my mother but Valentine's Day is supposed to be about romantic love and not family love. When I called my mother she commented that she was wondering when I would call. Women expect too much from this sexist holiday.
