#4 Fallacy

Hasty Generalization

"My roommate thinks Marijuana should be decriminalized and so do I. Therefore everyone thinks it should be decriminalized. "

Missing the Point

"Only drugs that can harm society should be illegal. Since marijuana doesn't harm the society, it should be legal."

Post hoc (False cause)

"Jim bought alcohol for Joey. Then Joey got a DUI. So it's Jim's fault Joey got a DUI."

Slippery Slope

"Currently the job market is low for writers. Soon no one will want to be a writer. There will be no books to read. Humans will lose intelligence and slowly die out."

Weak analogy

"Marijuana is like Tobacco. Both are plants and enjoyed socially. While tobacco is legal it is ridiculous for marijuana to be illegal."

Appeal to authority

"President Clinton and Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger have used marijuana so everyone should be able to at lease use it."

Ad Populum

"Marijuana should be legalized. All of my friends think so."

Ad hominem and tu quoque

"Pamela Anderson has spoken against animal cruelty but she has no respect for women seeing how she is porno star so her views on respecting animals should be overlooked"

Appeal to pity

"Celebrities should not serve jail time because they donate so much money to charity."

Appeal to ignorance

"Over centuries people have claim that they have seen the Lochness Monster and no one has proved that  it doesn't exist so it must exist ."

Straw man

"The government has refused to legalize drug use. However, this should be reconsidered because there are ways to regulate drug use. So the government is bad."

Red herring

"Professors should revise their teaching. I am tired of doing so much homework."

False dichotomy

"The Academic Success Center (ASC) has bad tutors. They should either close down or fire some of their tutors. Since the ASC shouldn't close down all together they should at least fire the bad tutors."

Begging the question

"Drug use should be legalized all together. It is not right to deny the sick or needy people who need drugs."

Equivocation

"Helping out the elderly is the right thing to do. So the elderly have a right to be helped out."
