IC:

Character name: Naoto Shirogane
Fandom: Persona 4
Timeline: End of the game; True Ending w/ Max Fortune Social Link (Friends)
Age: 16
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Naoto's intelligence and perception makes up for a few things she lacks... like height and social skills. She has a rather accurate shot with her revolver because of detective training and (most likely) knows a few close-combat moves for self defense. Beyond normal abilities, Naoto is a Persona-User and able to summon her inner ego which takes the form of Yamato-Takeru. With her persona, Naoto is a killer butterfly, equipped with Light, Dark, Almighty, and deadly physical skills.

How would they use their abilities?: Naoto probably wouldn't use her persona at all unless the situation was somehow necessary. Her other list of skills would obviously be used towards working.

Appearance: Standing at an amazing five feet with several inches added by her shoes, Naoto is a rather serious-looking teen. She has light skin and short, dark blue hair with matching blue eyes. Commonly, she is seen wearing her detective's uniform or Yasogami High uniform along with a blue detective's cap and appears rather flat compared to other girls her age. It's up to debate how she does, but most head canon suggests she binds her chest to give herself a more androgynous appearance.

Full Photo in case.

Background/Personality:
Born and raised never the really social kind, Naoto is known as the “Detective Prince” in mass media. At a young age, she began to solve difficult, border lining impossible cases and built up an incredible record. She is the 5th Generation in her family to take the Shirogane name and is proud of that. However, she finds herself hindered by her age and gender. She covers up both by acting older and dressing up as a male (even going so far as to demand Yasogami give her a male uniform when she starts attending).

She is summoned to Inaba from the city to assist with the mysterious murders occurring in the small rural town. No sooner is she assigned does she pick up on a key pattern of each victim’s sudden media fame before their kidnapping and begins following the trail. Naoto suspects Souji and his friends of their involvement and tells them (at one point) the case isn’t a game. Her scolding backfires when she’s accused of treating the case as a game instead. While she brushes the encounter aside, she wonders if she does treat it as nothing more than a game. Of course, she argues that it’s childish and forgets about it.

When the police capture Mitsuo Kubo and announce the case is over, Naoto shares her doubts. Before she can do anything about it, she’s dismissed. Furious, she works alone to prove there is more to the case than meets the eye and goes so far as to make herself the next target. Well, she was corrected. She’s kidnapped and thrown into the television world (Midnight Channel or Mayonaka TV). Unable to escape, she has to rely on Souji and his friends to come and save her. Unfortunately, they find out about her inner turmoil from her Shadow Self. Naoto is trying to be something she cannot; of course, in time she would age, but she could never be a male and as long as the precinct was male-oriented, she would continue to be looked down upon. Furious, she rejects her shadow, forcing the others to do battle with it. When the battle ends, she finally accepts who she is and is granted her initial persona, Sukuna-Hikona.

After a few days recovering (or a few weeks depending on when she’s rescued), Naoto joins the Investigation Team (Team members are: Souji, Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Rise, and Teddie) to help solve the murders once and for all, finding out about their Personas in turn. They train and stay on alert for the next victim, but fail to stop it in time. Nanako, Souji’s young cousin, is kidnapped and taken into the television world by the kidnapper, Taro Namatame. At confrontation, Namatame seems seriously disturbed, shocked even that the television world wasn’t the safe haven he thought it was. After saving Nanako, this information later brings to light that Namatame was an unfortunate accomplice and the true murderer was someone else.

The Investigation Team confront the culprit, Tohru Adachi, at the hospital at the beginning of December. He flees into the television and they give chase. Before Christmas Eve they have their final confrontation, taking down Adachi, but also defeating one of the major beings behind the fog, Ame-no-Sagiri. Adachi is tried and sentenced to prison. The world outside is returned to normal.

March arrives and the Investigation Team is called together once more when Souji confronts the true being behind the television world. It turns out the goddess Izanami-no-Okami is causing the fog as man desires to become lost and hide the truth away. The Investigation Team go into the TV world for a final time and take the goddess down, restoring the TV world back to normal finally.

Personality wise, Naoto first comes off as stuffy, stubborn, and way too serious (maybe even suffering from Napoleon Complex). Her mind remains absorbed in any case she takes and she rarely takes the time to make friends. Of course, the Investigation Team was obviously her first real group of friends and also the major reason she begins to change. While it’s nothing big at first, she does begin to smile and have fun in their company, but also becomes easily nervous or embarrassed when they try to make her do more girly activities. It’s dually noted she is self-conscious about her body, dropping out of a beauty pageant because of the swimsuit portion and shredding her physical exam results to keep her bust size a secret.

During her social link, she gradually learns to open up and to remain passionate about her job which allows Sukuna-Hikona to become Yamato-Takeru. She still (by habit now) acts like a boy, speaking with a deeper pitch and referring to herself in masculine pronouns (Boku), but her voice becomes higher when frustrated or flustered. Overall, she’s a very strong-willed person and loyal to her allies. (She's straight up lawful good yo)

Have you read up on how the game works?: FlamingFerret is the Guide Plug-in thing, money from stealing, mooching, working, or freelancing. Ship is the SS Thor and Vogons still suck at poetry.

1st person sample:

[The feed begins, showing a short ‘boy’ looking awfully cross. Well, at least it looks like a boy. She sighs and straightens the blue hat on her head and glances around. If she seem agitated at this predicament, it’s hard to read it on her face. Still, it’s a moment before she speak]

My name is Naoto Shirogane. I was residing in Inaba before arriving on the… SS Thor and being informed of my world’s destruction. If there are any others from Inaba, I ask for you to contact me. Thank you.

[Deep voice, but that’s all she has to say before turning the video off.]

3rd person sample:

The Microsoft Paperclip… we’re they seriously thinking she would fall for that? That was their excuse for kid? She was sixteen; not some four-year old with an overactive imagination. It was probably best if she didn’t let her attitude get the best of her right now. She still needed to locate her room with this map.

Naoto took in the design of the ship, taking in all the areas that were marked. The police department caught her interest, but only briefly. According to the paperwork upon arrival, she wouldn’t be able to work there for quite some time; not permanently at least. Several people had also informed her of checking the room listings board for her room mates and to see who else was here. Well, it was worth a shot…

She approached the large monitor on the current floor and gazed at all the names. To her surprise, Naoto noticed Chie and Dojima on the listing as well as…

“… Adachi…!?”

Well, this definitely went from bad to worse. Unfortunately, there was probably nothing she could do against him at the moment. She would just have to lay low and keep a close eye on him… a very close eye.

Questions?: Naoto might continue acting as a male around strangers. Is that m'kay?
