Hmmmmm... my life is generally kinda boring for people to be reading about actually. We met a new guy on Monday. He seems really cool, so I hope we get to hang out with him more.
Last night we ate some yummy mexican food and saw Lisa and Brian while we were there. That was pretty random. They were going to the Opeth show, a band I've never heard of but had three huge tour buses and lots of people waiting outside the Bottleneck for them.
From there we went to the benefit show at Louise's for a 24 year old hairstylist named Nicolette who has Hodgkins disease (cancer). I dont know her, but I read the poster and I'm a people watcher and figured out who she was.
The first band was terrible. I think they were called Unknown Stuntman or some such. The singer kept belching into the microphone and the guitarist at one point made a comment that the girl had slept with the band members. Whether she has or hasnt, that comment, like all of their other comments, was in complete bad taste and extremely annoying. The music wasnt any better. I'm surprised anyone stayed in the room, because if I'd had my druthers I'd been right back out the door. Although, I guess like we were, people suffered through it to get to other bands. The highlight of their set was the rendition of the Fall Guy theme from the 80s. Not that it was at all recognizable, but I caught a line out of it and remembered liking the show when I was young. The second band was Santo Gold. This is definitely not the same band that I saw a couple years ago. From what I can tell at least three of the band members are not the same people. They sound way different and its not just the change in singer. When I saw them before, it was like a metal band with a coffee shop singer. (Kelsey sounds like a beat poet sing songing away to background music in my opinion.) The band themselves were really tight and outside of not liking the singer, I could appreciate that the band was good. The current line up is much less annoying, since Dalen sings, but the band is definitely not as tight as they once were. However, the music style is different too and perhaps comparing them to the old band isnt fair and I dont know anything about music anyway. I do like this line up better, at least the music and the singer match better. I'd still go see them for the same reason I saw them before, we have friends in the band.
The last band was the Esoteric. I was expecting much worse. I really thought they were going to be over the top cheese and stuff. I suppose it helps if the singer cant use samples and effects because they dont have the right cable. The highlight of that band was the skill of the drummer. The band is quite high energy. I'd been tired most of the night, but they made me wake up and be excited and happy. I like the energy that bands/ crowds generate with stuff like they play. One over zealous drunk guy made a bunch of people mad by shoving into them and then fell flat on his back under the singers feet. It made me smile. He calmed down after that and a talking to.
Overall, I had a really great time and I would do it again. :)
