slice up 10 medium pickling cucumbers
mix together 1 qt. cold water + 1/4 cup pickling salt and pour over cukes
refrigerate overnight, next day rinse and drain
make brine of 1 cup water, 1 cup vinegar and 1.5 cups sugar
bring brine to a boil, pour over cukes, add 1/2 an onion (chopped) and 4 whole cloves of garlic
refrigerate overnight
