04.12.07 - our first trailer trip (photo by Sean)

Here we are at the end of our first excursion using the bike trailer. We rode to the mall by my work and back. It was a lovely ride, a little nerve-wracking being in the street with traffic (for those brief times I was), but all the cars gave me a wide pass, and most waved me ahead for left turns and such. Some lessons learned: don't carry so much stuff, or get a bigger bag (I had jackets and helmets dangling off me in the mall), snap the rain cover back on the trailer when it's parked outside (it was a little damp when we got back to it), and watch out for Otto's neck skin when closing the buckle on his helmet (ouch, sorry Otto!).

When we got home from our ride, there was the delicious smell of brisket cooking! We had a lovely dinner, then played some of our new Super Paper Mario on the Wii (ooh, it's so fun), and then watched Forbidden Zone, which was recommended by thetathrees (thank you!), and it is one of the best crazy movies I've ever seen. Back in the 70s, Danny Elfman, his brother Richard, and a bunch of other performers had a musical theatre/cabaret/performance group called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo (which, by the footage in the extras on the DVD, were amazing), and in 1980 they made a movie to try and capture the essence of their stage show on film. The result is a surreal black and white journey into the 6th dimension, where Hervé Villechaize as the perverted king Fausto and Susan Tyrrell as the evil queen Doris (hatched from a witch's egg!) have all kinds of disgusting fun. The sets, costumes, performances, songs (there's one that seems to the the progenitor of "This is Halloween"), and animation are all amazing. Insane and wonderful. One of the best movies ever. I can't believe I never saw it at the UC Theatre.
