wheeeeeee! new fandom!
I am watching Farscape for the first time, almost entirely unspoiled. I am up to 2x06 "The Way We Weren't".
And OMG I LOVE THIS FREAKING SHOW!!!!
I am still sobbing about Pilot, nearly a full day after watching the ep. He was in pain all this time? Nooo! ::weeps:: I can't handle Pilot-pain. I feel so protective of him. He's one of my favorite characters now - whoever animates that guy does an awesome job, because with Pilot I have *never* felt like I'm just watching a puppet. (Unlike Rygel, who has seemed a little artificial this season.)
The Pilot/Aeryn relationship is one of the highlights of the show for me, and has been ever since their interaction in "Exodus From Genesis", so I was so happy to see some of their shared history (even if it was horrible). And I have to say, I like Aeryn so much better now that I have watched her from the very beginning. I saw maybe 3 or 4 episodes from the later seasons before getting into the show properly, and back then I had no clue what everyone saw in her. She seemed so rigid and off-putting to me. But now I've really warmed up to her. Although - and I will surely get in trouble for this - I'm not nearly as over-the-moon for the John/Aeryn 'ship as everyone else seems to be. It's nice, and I enjoy their scenes together, but they're nothing special. I'd much rather see John/Chiana. Or Aeryn/Chiana. Or, you know, Chiana/anybody. ;)
Speaking of which, a big huge YAY! for Chiana, my Absolute Most Favoritest One Of All (and always will be, I suspect). She totally kicks ass. They've softened her appearance a bit too much though - I like her crazy wild hair from Season 1.
As much as I am enjoying Zhaan's ongoing character arc from calm, wise priestess to highly emotional, slightly unstable Delvian (which also seems to be the direction Crichton is taking; he's really been on the edge lately), and as nice as it must be for Virginia Hey to get to portray an evolving character, ... well ... I kinda miss EarthMother!Zhaan. She was so comforting.
Rygel is reminding me very much of Spike in BtVS Seasons 4 and 5; namely, "So, why haven't they gotten rid of him, already?" I mean, I like the guy and all, but he's a total troublemaker and has absolutely no loyalty to anyone else on the ship. As demonstrated in "Mind The Baby", he'd sell them out in a second if there was anything to be gained from it. I don't get why they're letting him stay.
My favorite episodes so far: "Exodus From Genesis", "PK Tech Girl", "DNA Mad Scientist" (gah! more Pilot pain!!), "A Human Reaction", "Nerve/The Hidden Memory", "Family Ties" (when the end credits rolled I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOO!!"), "Mind The Baby", and of course, TWWW.
I should probably be writing commentary as I go, much like heres_luck is doing, for the enjoyment of other 'Scapers and to remember my first impressions. But I can't really analyze a show the first time around. Any comments I make right now would be along the lines of "omg Chiana squeeeeeee!" or "Scorpy, you rat bastard!" More immediate-emotion stuff than intelligent deconstruction. (Although I am reading HL's posts after each episode, and also the ep reviews on this site.)
