Still no work.

I'm seriously thinking of showing up at my old employer's HR department and asking if they remember telling me how easy I would find it to get another job. Ha. From talking with others in the area, it does seem that a lot of those whose jobs weren't eliminated have been getting while the getting is good.

Of course the feds don't consider me unemployed anymore since I'm not getting unemployment insurance.  On the other hand they have officially designated me a "displaced worker".  That and $5 will get you a venti latté at Starbucks.

The navy contract job, the one where they were calling me asking if I was still interested and available (answer, the polite version of "Hell Yes!") was given to someone else, without my even getting an interview.  I can't even get temp jobs.  Kelly has pretty much promised me some work once school starts, since there is always a shortage of substitute teachers.  The pay is not much better than minimum wage.  But at this point it's something. I just stripped the savings account which should pay this month's bills.  Next month?

I've got an elder child who has no interest in doing anything for the summer, but at least the school system will be working with her this fall and getting her a paid part time job with a job coach and other assistance.  Younger child is upset because she wants to do the Vet Tech course at the local community college this fall, but it's Fridays, 8-2, ie, the same time as school.  And since she's going to be doing some real classes in the main building, she really can't afford to miss every 5th session of each class.  The other option suggested by the school was for her to transfer to the Vo-Ag program in Ledyard.  I suggested it to her this afternoon, and you'd think I'd been laughing while informing her I'd killed her pet rabbits.

At this point I'm sorely tempted to find someplace to drop her off, telling them to call me to pick her up in two years.

I'm not suicidal by nature, but damn if I'm not beginning to understand why some people chose that route.
