Today Icarus took the whole company to see Avatar. It was a pretty cool way to do a company Christmas thing, actually. For the movie itself, okay, don't worry about spoilers because with the exception of one extremely peculiar combat decision there is not a single thing in this movie that you will not see coming, mostly because the plot is entirely comprised of the plots of other movies. Imagine Lawrence of Arabia falling for Pocahontas in a psychedelic jungle and fighting the Starship Troopers. Throw in a couple of New Age paperbacks on tribal tradition and a little dragon riding from any fantasy film you like and you'll pretty much have the gist of it.
But the aliens are really beautiful, and the way they more or less plug in to the natural world was actually pretty cool; that concept I liked. And at least the scientists are good guys; how often does that happen in a movie?
Then I got my hair done. I really like this stylist and the cut itself is great, but he blew it out in big waves and I look like a soccer mom. As I showed up in heels, hoops, and stretch pants, the overall effect is approaching Hot Cougar Action. I'm going to go see what I can do with it before I go anywhere else.
