I love the fanfic involving Indigo!Piper. But for me, Piper seems suited for a different color entirely. Below is my argument in favor of Hartley Rathaway as a Star Sapphire
( Read more... )
Actually Piper was in a mental clinic only once. And that was pre-Crisis, on the Earth which is already erased. And in the time period when it was somewhat popular to do this to characters. Barry Allen's second girlfriend suffered from nervous breakdown at the same time too.
And it's not that his relationships (which were not so multiple - 3 boyfriens during 15 or so years... and he told Wally in the Flash #60 he wasn't really 'partying' for quite some time) didn't develop, it's just that DC didn't write about them. Which happens, actually, quite often, especially when the pairing in question is a same-sex one. My theory is that, if Messner-Loebs still wrote the Flash, Piper would've still be with Mike Forbes.
And, well, Star Sapphire is an substance taken from the bones of the most long-lasting pair in the DCU - the Hawks. And their love is requited without question. I think that Sapphire doesn't need an unrequited one, though the old management may have preferred the candidates with it. Or not. Too little information to say for sure, and the Sapphires began to remain themselves, instead of turning into something different, only recently.
And I find Piper surprisingly stable =_= Before and during the Middle Crisis his mind got raped... I mean, influenced, for 5 (!) times. First Mirror Master, then Joker venom, then the Spectre, then the Top, then Wally. The way he bounced from it? Well, I admired him... Even Linda took a vacation from her life and loving husband, and she got hit only 2 times. And the Countdown... Well, I think, if I were in Piper's shoes, I'd be a whimpering mess even before James' death. But Piper put himself together and made everyone to face the music.
And is he really an anti-hero? The Secret Six lot is anti-heroic alright, but Piper's playing on the side of angels and living by that side's laws. I'm looking forward to his return as a hero once more.
I honor your superior knowledge. And this message is a "keeper" which will influence my future fiction efforts around here. Thanks for setting me straight. P.S. I miss him too. His absence from the Blackest/Brightest arc is shameful -- are you listening, DC????
Yes, he should've been in this arc. =( And now we're talking about Darkseid and New Gods again - and it will be really strange if Piper's still missing from it.
Geoff Johnes promised in July that we'll see him soon... well, it seems 'soon' means 'like, in a year' T_T
And, um, if you're interested, I uploaded all the Piper's and Trickster's appearances in DCU on Mediafire a few days ago. I can post the link in this community.
