Hmm...I don't quite know why it has taken me so long to post. I haven't been particularly busy. But, that's probably why I haven't posted because nothing too exciting has happened. One cool thing is that I now have my very own laptop and she is beautiful! I am typing on her as we speak! I even got her a skin...

The boys and I have reached an all time nerdy low. We installed Starcraft on a bunch of PC's in our computer lab. It's one of those war games where you build a camp and then build up troops and win a war. Even though we are all in the same room, we want to get those headphones so that we can all talk to each other! Haha! I'm actually not too bad at it. Then again I try to get on teams with really good guys...
I flew to Kansas on June 7th for a weekend family reunion. It was at the old homestead in the middle of nowhere/a wheat field. I flew into Kansas City, where I met up with my parents and together we drove 3 hours to Osbourne. My family stayed in a little run-down motel that looked like it was once in a horror film. Its scenery overlooked a dusty crossroads and a massive wheat field. The farm was about 20 min away from our motel. I haven't been to the old farm since I was about 8 years old so I had really romantic childhood dreams of the place. I was soooo happy that my memory was really accurate. It was perfect. There is this one shed that is halfway between the house and the aluminium barn that has a bunch of old tools and was where all the adults would break out their guitars and sing...and as soon as I stepped into it I almost cried because I actually remembered the smell. And of course...there was a hooten-nanny going on in there almost 24/7 (just like old times). I bonded with some of my cousins (who I see almost every year) and was reunited with an extended cousin that I hadn't met since I was 8. It was great to really get to know her and not just run around with her like last time. Then mother drove me back to the airport on Sunday so that I could be at school the next day. Phew! My parents proceeded to drive to Arkansas to hang out with mom's parents. So, I had that week to myself. Actually they are gone this week too. The Reverend and Mamma Jo went to a pastor's leadership conference in Orlando. So, it's just me and the cats...and my new laptop.:-)
This weekend I think that the boys and I are going to the Scottish Festival/The Highland Games! I'm excited to see strong men in kilts! I hope some have an accent and play the bagpipes! Maybe I can find myself a man there...lol!
Last week some of the boys convinced me to go work out with them at a gym by our school. I didn't want to but I had nothing better going on so I went. I got a 2 week free pass and I am loving it! I really want to join but my finances are currently a little low (what with school books and my laptop). I swear one guy was checking me out one day and I totally wanted to do something goofy like give my trademark silly grin/wink combo. Alas, I chickened out. I saw him again today but of course it was while I was singing along with one of the songs that was playing. So I wasn't looking too cool. Plus, it probably cripples my image that I work out with about 4 other guys. Oh well.
One more story...this is sad...really sad...really REALLY sad...and graphic...but I wouldn't do it justice if I didn't convey the icky details. You must feel what I felt because it was the strangest thing ever. If you have a weak stomach and an over-developed affinity for animals, then by all means skip this paragraph and you will live a long and happy life. Ready...mother and I witnessed the horrible mangling of a squirrel on our birdfeeder. We have a birdfeeder by the window because mother really loves watching birds. Anytime a squirrel gets on it we shoo it away. Well there was a big fat squirrel and mom tapped the window to get it to leave. It looked like it was about to jump but then made this really weird trapeze flip thingy. But, it STAYED there, no matter what we did. I said maybe it was stuck. Mom went outside and called through the window to confirm that it was indeed stuck. But, she didn't get close to it, so she didn't see the true horror of what had occurred. I went to go get gloves to see if I could do anything about it and as I got close I saw that the poor thing's leg had gotten caught and a bone had completely ripped through the skin. It started chewing on the metal surrounding its twisted leg. I thought to myself "Oh God, please don't let this be like the movie Saw and the poor thing tries to chew off it's own leg!". I immediately knew I couldn't do anything and yelled at mom to call animal control. Interestingly enough we don't have animal control on the weekends. One would think with all the taxes... Anywho, mother called our little local metroparks nature center. Mom told me the conversation later and it sounded like an ignorant high school intern who loves animals was working the phone. Her immediate response to hearing about the squirrel was to see if we could get it down ourselves (I remember from grade school that we are NEVER supposed to approach an injured wild animal). She was totally clueless, finally she gave mother the number for the non-emergency police line. Luckily a police man was right around a corner and came as soon as he got the page. He of course told us what the animal girl should have known...NEVER APPROACH AN INJURED ANIMAL!!!! By this time the squirrel WAS trying to chew it's leg (according to mom because I went to take a shower to get my mind off of it)! The po-po put the squirrel and the birdfeeder in a box. It had to be put down. (*Sigh*) At least it didn't have to suffer anymore because that had to be absolute torture. Now mom and I are scared to shoo squirrels from the feeders even though we know it was a freak accident.
You're depressed now aren't you.
I warned you.
But, I wanted to chronicle it so I wouldn't forget.
It's your own fault for reading it.
Hmm... I feel as though my preamble to this hinted that I had nothing to say...obviously I was mistaken.
Actually I have more...should I say now...this entry is so long I could probably just give the story it's very own slot. I think I will. But, later though.
