Okay. So the show tonight went in a direction I was hoping it would go in, and now I'm worried that the writers will royally fuck it up because they're very good at that (though they have been remarkably good and consistent with this one thing so far).
The TL;DR version is, Sheldon asked Amy if she would like to be his girlfriend - or, more accurately, if they could alter the paradigm of their relationship BUT NOTHING WOULD CHANGE - and Amy accepted and it was adorable and there was a relationship contract Amy had to sign stipulating things like terms of handholding and kdklslkslsl I LOVE THEM but now the fandom will most likely get super-extra-annoying.
I will just copy and paste what I reblogged on Tumblr:

Currently Following Owls:Yes, Sheldon Cooper is most likely asexual. What is important to understand that sexual attraction and romantic relationships are not one and the same. Asexuality is widely accepted and defined as the lack of sexual attraction to someone. I think we can all agree that Sheldon will likely never be sexually attracted to anyone.
That being said, he can totally and completely have a romantic relationship with someone. There is no reason as to why he could not call someone his girlfriend.
Also, based on Sheldon’s personality (and past episodes) it is completely natural for him to be jealous of other people becoming close with Amy. It is also natural for him to go to great lengths to keep everything in his life the way he likes it. If that means changing Amy’s title from ‘not-a-girlfriend’ to ‘girlfriend’ then he will do just that.
TL;DR SHELDON IS COMPLETELY IN CHARACTER AND STOP TRYING TO FIT OTHER PEOPLE’S SEXUALITIES OR LACK THEREOF INTO YOUR OWN DEFINITIONS.
Me:YES THIS
And even if past episodes have demonstrated that Amy is sexual (or at least gray-asexual), I see no reason why Amy and Sheldon wouldn’t be able to work around it without Sheldon being totally out of character. HE HAD A RELATIONSHIP CONTRACT, HE’S THOUGHT ABOUT THIS.
I will defend this amazing asexy ship with my life. I want them to stay weird and adorable and contrary and not become ordinary dating people.
BBT WRITERS DO NOT FUCK THIS UP
