I'm on record making the generalization (which by definition means it does not actually define every person I'm making it about) that there are two types of adults, Halloween adults and Christmas adults. People are always surprised I define myself as the latter. I guess I still give off heavy Grownup Goth vibes, even though I'm now a fat old woman with greying bangs and cat's eye reading glasses. (Even as a teenager, the only time in my life I tried to conform in at least a limited sense, I didn't do the all-black clothing. I tried, but it was just so boring.)
None of which is to say I dislike Halloween, I like it fine, it just isn't that important to me. It's usually on a weekday and I don't have kids, or even live in a neighborhood with them. I wore my orange dress and black-and-white striped tights, and did some Halloween-themed press-on nails. I stopped at Rouses on the way to work and bought some Halloween petit fours from the bakery to put in the breakroom.
My hot Halloween take is that Halloween is boring. But the podcast You Are Good discussed it in today's episode and I dunno, maybe I should re-visit it. I do really like that era of John Carpenter movies, but I usually prefer The Fog or The Prince of Darkness on Halloween (or The Thing any time of year).
