I started the audio version of Will Sommer's Trust the Plan and decided to re-read Rosemary's Baby.
Of the former, Sommer is The Daily Beast's reporter who covers rightwing scammers and grifters, and Trust the Plan is his long-awaited book about QAnon. I have to say though, it's somewhat distracting that he didn't read it himself, because a lot of it is told in the first person, and I know what his voice sounds like because I'm a fan of the podcast he co-hosts with Kelly Weill (whose book about Flat Earthers, Off The Edge, I wrote about last year), Fever Dream. He does talk fast; maybe they thought if he read it it would only be like 90 minutes long.
Of the latter, I'm not sure how a horror novel, and one that has Things To Say About the Patriarchy, became such a comfy read for me, but it totally is. Maybe just because I've read it so many times. It's also the only book that's ever made me feel like it might be fun to live in New York City, at least the version of it that existed before I was born. Hey, I'm a childfree atheist*, the Castavets wouldn't be interested in me. Also I just learned Mia Farrow read an audio version of it, which I might totally use my next Audible credit on. That's just fun!
*I mean, technically. I have beliefs, but they don't really include the perpetually grumpy Bible God, or his frenemy Satan.
I went to Aromatic Infusions for the first time in months. At first it was the holidays and I didn't have the time (or money) to spare, then it was Carnival and I didn't want to tangle with parade routes. They had rosewood essential oil as the half-off oil this week, so I got some of that, some more neuropathy balm for my legs, a mint chocolate lip balm--lip balm is one of those things I can never resist buying and I always have 3 or 4--and a "happiness" nasal inhaler. I don't really think oils can alter your moods, except in the basic sense of having a pleasant smell in your environment is obviously better for your psyche than one that makes you want to gag. But it does smell really nice, and it was only $4. According to the label it's lemon, mandarin, bergamot, rose, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, geranium, rosewood, and jasmine. Might be worth re-creating that as a diffuser blend.
I bought some incense from Nippon Kodo and some CBD and melatonin gummies from Binoid. I tried melatonin by itself back in the 1990s and it didn't seem to make much difference with my RLS so eventually i just stopped buying it. But since I have that mostly under control now (with a combination of CBD, magnesium, and the neuropathy balm), I want to see if melatonin will help me to sleep through the night instead of waking up every other hour.
