Weekend accomplishments

Saturday I got kolaches for breakfast. There's a place on the bypass with a drive-through, so on a weekend morning I can just pull on a pair of leggings underneath my nightshirt (and a sweatshirt over it, if the weather calls for it) and I don't have to get out of my car. I went to CVS, got my haircut, went through the carwash--I haven't washed it in like 3 weeks and hoo boy it showed--and went to Rouse's. I squeezed some grapefruits and made salty dogs for my brothers and I.

After supper I made Mom give me her phone and tried to make sense of what happened to my Christmas presents. It was completely all over the place: one place she only bought one of the 3 things I asked for, which means she got gouged on shipping. (I made bundles of anything that wasn't coming from Amazon, to meet the threshold for free shipping.) She didn't buy any of the paint-by-numbers sets from Elle Cree--I gave her like 3 choices--so I bought one for myself. And she did buy the watercolor stuff I asked for, but she bought 4 of the same brush and 3 of the same watercolor set. Which was supposedly delivered on December 22nd. I went out with a flashlight last night and looked everywhere, and that box is definitely not anywhere on our porch. And it wasn't stolen either, because a) that is just not a thing where we live, and b) I was home on the 22nd, it was the first full day I had off. I remember bringing in other packages, even.

So I have no idea what to do about that. It's not like I even want it now, because Mom spent a stupid amount of money buying multiple identical items. Maybe I can get them to cancel it, but it's been weeks since it was supposed to arrive, so I know they're going to be like "Why are you complaining about this now?"

Sunday I cracked open the new Smitten Kitchen cookbook and made the sheet pan eggs and potato chips for breakfast:

Next time I would use a bit less olive oil and cook the eggs for a minute less, but it was pretty good. I really liked the mix of smoked paprika, onion powder, and salt and pepper she seasoned the potatoes with.

In the afternoon I changed/washed the bed sheets, did a load of towels and one of clothes, and made pesto. Supper was another from the new Smitten Kitchen, toasted ricotta gnocchi with pistachio pesto:

I never made gnocchi before and these were pretty easy. I like that it's mostly cheese, just enough flour to make a dough. Seemed like a good option for the diabetics in the house.

I didn't make a cake, we still had king cake.

Here's this week's cross stitch work in progress:

So. close. to finished.
